Would you like to renovate your bathroom, but you have no idea where to start? Also important: how much does a bathroom actually cost? In this blog we tell you everything you need to know before you start your bathroom renovation.
You are looking for a new bathroom, but you have no idea what the costs will be. It is difficult to give a ready answer to this, because the costs depend on various factors. Are you going for a luxurious bathroom or are you going for a low budget with showroom models? Do you have everything assembled or are you a handy Harry yourself?
You understand: there is no unequivocal answer to the question 'how much does a bathroom cost?', but in this blog we will share some factors that play an important role in your bathroom renovation. Think of it as a checklist, so that you are well prepared before the start of your makeover .
To give you an idea of the costs associated with a bathroom renovation, we will give some examples based on averages. Of course we use the prices of our Furnified furniture in our examples. Composing your bathroom at Furnified is already a smart move: here you will find the most beautiful washbasins and bathroom furniture for competitive prices, without compromising on quality.
Then the most important factors to take into account:
Undoubtedly, one of the largest costs for a bathroom renovation is the cost of labor for the laborers you'll need to hire to install your bathroom. Think about:
The average hourly wage here is easily around €50 per hour. Of course it saves a lot if you get to work yourself, even if only before breaking out the current bathroom. Also ask around, maybe you have a handy neighbor who can help you move the pipes. Please note: cheap can also be expensive!
Your bathroom renovation starts with the demolition of the current bathroom. If you outsource this, you will probably be done within a day, and also about € 700 poorer. If you do it yourself, it may take you a little longer, but you will save a lot of money. Don't forget, however, that you still have to rent a dumpster to dispose of all the demolition waste. Also count around €300 for this.
The most important follow-up steps are then the installation or relocation of the correct pipes, sewerage and electricity. Your plumber will certainly be working on this for half a day, so quickly calculate an amount of € 500 . The same applies to the electrician, although they will be ready faster in a new house because the electricity there is probably already compliant. We therefore charge €300 for the electrician.
Another important cost item is finishing the walls. If you want to have tiles installed, it will be a bit more expensive than if you had the walls plastered. If you want to save on this, choose a combination of both and do not tile your walls completely to the ceiling.
For a tiled wall, the total price naturally depends on the type of tiles you choose, but the average cost of installing tiles is €70 per m2. We assumed an average bathroom of 9 m2, so 3 by 3 meters. We opt for a combination of plastering and tiling, in which we tile up to 1.5 meters. This gives us a total surface of 29 m2. All added up, you have € 1200 in costs for tiling your bathroom.
Please note: we have not yet included the floor here. Installing floor tiles is slightly cheaper at an average of €44 per m2, but for our bathroom we quickly end up at €400 . We are only talking about the labor costs here, you have to add the costs for purchasing the tiles. Keep at least € 500 aside for this, for both the walls and the floor.
Now that all the jobs are done, we can move on to the fun part of the bathroom renovation: placing the plumbing and bathroom furniture. The real furnishing can begin! We opt for a beautiful hanging toilet, the average prices are around €400 . Add some costs for the flush buttons; let's round it up to $500 .
A bath is an expensive expense, but for some people a real must. You will soon be at € 1000 for a bath. About the same price you pay for a walk-in shower. If you want to save, choose one of the two.
Furnified has plenty of choice for bathroom furniture. We opt for a bathroom furniture with a double sink for extra comfort that is 150 cm wide, so that it fits well in the bathroom that is not too large. The terrazzo washbasin plate is completely up-to-date and provides a modern look in combination with the designer washbasins. Cost? Just over €1000 . We are going for 2 matt black construction cranes of € 200 each. Again, count around €500 for the installation
The bathroom renovation is almost done! Keep another €700 aside for decoration: a nice mirror , a towel rack and possibly an extra cabinet . Did you already grab the calculator? Because how much does a bathroom cost? According to our calculations, we come to €9400. A decent price for a not too large bathroom without too many luxury gadgets.
Keep in mind that there may always be unforeseen costs. So calculate your budget at least 5% more so that you are prepared for everything.
A new bathroom is already expensive enough. There is a lot to be gained by doing as much as possible yourself, unfortunately that is not for everyone. Therefore save on the following points:
