Furnified favourites come to life in the extraordinary house of Juma Architects
Julie Van De Keere and Mathieu Luyens of Juma Architects live in a house they designed themselves, in a small green corner on the outskirts of Ghent. With its warm and modern signature, this strikingly large building was the perfect backdrop for a Furnified photo shoot. Want to take a look?
In addition to our showrooms in Antwerp and Amsterdam, Furnified is increasingly venturing into special locations to tell inspiring interior stories. This time, the special place of the day was the house of architect couple Julie Van De Keere and Mathieu Luyens. In a green suburb of Ghent, a few steps away from Julie's parental home, the couple found their dream site. The deep, narrow building is located behind a few other houses and blends into the lush greenery: an oasis of privacy, according to the two architects who used to live in the heart of Ghent.
Finca
Both architects have a special bond with Ibiza, where they have completed several projects and where Mathieu started his career after his studies. It is therefore not surprising that the typical Spanish finca inspired the duo to design their own house. It consists of three volumes, which, although small in size, differ slightly in height. In addition to the garage, there is the architect's office with its own entrance (ideal for work-life balance) and, of course, the main house. Low, elongated forms dominate the layout of the house: only the bedroom with dressing room is located as a separate suite on the first floor.
Warm and aesthetic
A glass gallery separates the different rooms. In this way, a multitude of varied views are created and the green outdoor environment is present throughout. In their work, the two architects are known for their warm and aesthetic signature. The layering of materials and the contrast between rough and smooth is therefore a guiding theme. They had their concrete ceiling covered with wood, and in the kitchen, travertine, tadelakt and larch wood are used side by side. The living room also has a lot of texture thanks to the raw concrete ceiling.
Rattan, leather and wood
The result is modern and minimalist, practical and yet warm: a great combination with Furnified's items. For one day, Mathieu and Julie made room in their beautiful home for some Furnified favourites, which really came into their own in this environment. The Milan sofa's elegant blend of natural materials is highlighted, the versatility of the Celine multi-functional wall shelf is emphasised and the Wilson leather sofa invites you to sink in and relax with a good book. The Webbing bedside table and the Leon side table also shine in this special home with their natural rattan and black frame. The Furnified designs fit seamlessly into Julie and Mathieu's stylish interior, which is also characterised by vintage classics and colourful memorabilia. We love the end result - do you?
